Classrooms

Our classrooms are well organised to promote the children’s independence and to ensure the best from all of our children. Both classrooms have working walls for English and Maths to aid the children with their work. We also have Topic boards where we proudly display the children’s work and photographs of their learning.

School Council

Every class has one school councilor that represent their class at school council meetings. They will share ideas their class have, make decisions and action change driven by the children. They will then feedback these improvements to the rest of their class.

Dojo Masters

Every class has two Dojo Masters. The Dojo Masters demonstrate our FIRSY values each day and help support their peers to represent these values too. Also, they will greet visitors in school, welcome them into our classrooms and explain what the learning within class.

Our Curriculum - what will we be learning?

Topic 

Autumn 1

Tribal Tales

Throughout this half term, our Year 3/4 pupils will explore a rich and exciting range of learning. In History, children will investigate Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, discovering how early people lived, hunted and built communities. In Science, they will explore Light and Sound, carrying out practical enquiries to understand how we see and hear. Our Art work includes creating expressive cave paintings and sculpting a clay ‘Lion Man’. In Computing, pupils will learn about Data Logging and how technology helps us collect and interpret information. Through RE, they will consider what it means to be a Christian in Britain today. PSHE focuses on building healthy relationships and understanding feelings. In MFL, children will begin discovering new languages, including Latin. For PE, Year 3 children from Marvellous Maples will take part in swimming lessons while Year 4 children from Maples along with all of Junipers will develop skills through net and wall games.

This half-term, we will take part in a Stone Age workshop. This will take place on 20th/ 21st October. 

Autumn 2

I am Warrior

In this topic, for History we will be learning all about the Romans and how people lived back then. We will also be exploring this in our Art lessons, where we will learn how to do Roman drawings. In Design and Technology we will be learning to cook focaccia. In PE we will be starting our Dance unit in year 4 and continue swimming in year 3.

In our Maths lessons, Year 3 will be focusing on Addition and Subtraction and Multiplication and Division. Year 4 will be focusing on Area and Multiplication and Division. We will continue to practise our timestables daily.

Spring 1 and 2

Urban Pioneers

In this topic, we will be discussing transport in Geography. This will also be a part of our Sustainability unit. We will be learning all about Architects in Art, linking with our local history unit, drawing lots of local buildings. In Science we will be learning all about plants. 

In Maths, Year 3 will be completing multiplication and division, length and perimeter, fractions and mass and capacity.

In Year 4 pupils will be looking at multiplication and division, fractions, length and perimeter and decimals.

Summer 1

Predator

Our Science unit this half term is living things and their habitats. This also thinks to our Sustainability unit of living on land and living in the wild. We will be continuing our languages topic of Latin.

Summer 2

Gods and Mortals

In this topic, for History we will be learning all about the Ancient Greeks and how they lived. This will link with our Art topic of clay and drawing in 3D. We will be learning Latin alongside celebrating GRT history month.

Home Learning

Home learning will help children to practice skills and consolidate knowledge learnt at school. Children will have a Topic Home Learning Grid where they can choose activities to complete throughout the half term. You can share pictures of these on Class Dojo.

For Marvellous Maples and Jolly Junipers, weekly home learning for English and Maths will be given to the children on Friday and must be returned to school by the following Wednesday.

Home learning club is available at lunch time if your child wishes to attend or requires extra support to complete their home learning.

 

P.E.

Maples PE lesson- Wednesday
Junipers PE lesson- Friday

Please ensure your child comes to school with their PE kit in a bag. Children should have hair tied back if it is long enough. To keep children safe, make sure your child is not wearing any jewellery on PE days.

For swimming lessons, children need to have a towel, girls need to have a one-piece swimming costume and boys need to wear shorts or swimming trunks.
