    Our Classrooms

    Look at our classrooms!

A classroom is a special room in a school where children go to learn together. It is a safe and welcoming space with tables or desks, chairs, and a teacher at the front to help guide learning.

In a classroom, children take part in different activities such as reading, writing, maths, and creative work. There will be displays on the walls to show children’s work, learning posters, and helpful information. Classrooms often have areas for different types of learning, such as a reading corner, a carpet area for group time, and spaces for practical activities.

Children are expected to follow rules, be kind to each other, and listen carefully so that everyone can learn. The classroom is a place where children can ask questions, share ideas, and develop new skills every day.

    Our Topics This Year

    Autumn 1

    Superheroes

This term in Year 1, we are learning about superheroes from the past who changed the world! We are finding out about Alexander Graham Bell and his amazing invention of the telephone, and we are also learning about Louis Braille, who created Braille to help blind people read. In Science, we are exploring our five senses and how they help us understand the world around us. In RE, we are learning about Christianity and the stories that Christians believe are important.

For this half-term we are going to be focussing on our oracy. We will be writing a range of captions, predictions and labels in relation to the book that we will be focussing on that week.

We will then be looking at the unit of: The place value of punctuation and grammar.

This unit will teach the student common, proper nouns and verbs and how they all work together to make a sentence.

We are looking at a range of Julia Donaldson Books this half-term to support our Oracy English unit.

    Memorable Experience

Our memorable experience this term will be exploring the outdoor trails, spotting different plants and trees, and learning about nature all around us. We will also have fun in the adventure play areas and work together to explore the activities indoors. We will spend the day using our senses to discover new things, and spend time outdoors with our friends.

    Careers

This half-term we will be inviting a guide dog into school and learning about what their job is.

    Autumn 2

    Paws, Claws and Whiskers

In this exciting topic, children will learn all about animals and their amazing features. They will explore different types of animals, including pets, farm animals, and wild animals, and begin to understand how they are the same and how they are different.

The children will learn about animal body parts such as paws, claws, and whiskers, and discover how these help animals to move, find food, and stay safe. They will also explore where animals live, what they eat, and how to group them in simple ways.

    Spring 1 and 2

    Bright Lights, Big City

In this topic, children will learn all about London, the capital city of England. They will explore famous landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, the River Thames, and Big Ben, and find out what makes London a busy and exciting place.

The children will also learn about an important event from the past called the Great Fire of London. They will discover how the fire started in a bakery, how it spread quickly through the city, and how people worked together to put it out. They will learn about how London has changed since then and how buildings are safer today.

Memorable Experience – Great Fire of London experience

During this exciting experience, the children will step back in time to 1666 to learn about the Great Fire of London. They will discover how the fire started in a bakery on Pudding Lane and quickly spread through the wooden houses of London.

The children will explore what London was like in the past and learn why the fire was so difficult to stop. Through role play, storytelling, and hands-on activities, they will experience what it might have been like to live during the fire. They will learn how people tried to put out the flames and how important Samuel Pepys was in telling us about what happened.

The experience will help the children understand how London changed after the fire, with safer buildings and wider streets. It will also encourage them to ask questions, imagine the past, and develop their understanding of history in a fun and memorable way.

    Summer 1

    Dinosaurs

In this exciting topic, children will learn all about dinosaurs and the fascinating world they lived in long ago. They will explore different types of dinosaurs, what they looked like, what they ate, and how they lived.

The children will also learn about Mary Anning, a famous fossil hunter, and discover how she found fossils along the seaside. They will begin to understand what fossils are and how they help us learn about animals that lived millions of years ago.

Through stories, hands-on activities, and exploring real-life discoveries, children will develop their curiosity about the past and learn how we find out about things that happened a long time ago.
